A little more about this tea ...
We take the quality and flavour of our teas very seriously but none more so than our masala chai tea. In 2016 we started working with an organic tea garden in Sri Lanka and this is where the spices for this blend are sourced. We are really thrilled to offer you this beautiful option which we consider is one of the best available. Not only is it delicious and warming it also offers a double dose of antioxidants in the form of tea and spices.
The medicinal benefits of spices have been recognised in Chinese and Indian natural medicine for centuries. Three spices that traditionally appear in a masala chai blend are cinnamon, ginger and cardamom. As well as tasting great, the benefits of these warming spices include – strengthening a weak digestive system, stimulating circulation, easing the symptoms of colds and flu and settling an upset tummy. One cup of this a day will assist your body to fight the forces of evil (if you prefer caffeine free try our Spiced Rooibos). An ancient tradition was to stir your cup of tea with a cinnamon stick so it could impart its warming, relaxing goodness.
Use our blend tea as a base for traditional boiled milk style chai (see below) or brew in the manner of a normal cup of tea adding milk and sweetener if required.
Traditional Boiled Milk Style (2 serves):
1. Combine 1.50 to 2 dessertspoons of Stir Masala Chai, 1 cup of milk, 1 cup of water in a saucepan (or use all milk for a very rich and nourishing drink). Stir and bring to the boil.
2. Reduce heat and simmer for 3-5 minutes (we prefer closer to 5 minutes). Remove from the heat, stir in sugar or honey to your liking and strain into a bowl.
3. Whisk to a froth (if desired) and pour into cups. Enjoy.
At Stir we use different coloured umbrellas to help you easily identify the categories of tea and tisanes we offer. Our Black Teas are represented by a Blue Umbrella. You can read more about the other umbrella colours we use and their connection to tea leaf here.
